Mary Jane Baby Slippers Knitting Pattern

The pattern is meant for babies aged between 0 - 6 months depending on the size of wool and needles you are using.

The pattern is easy and will not take you very long to make these wonderful slippers. A basic knowledge of knitting is all that is required for you to get started!

What you will need:

1 pair of US 2 (2 3/4mm) needles
Rowan 4 ply cotton (for a bigger slipper use DK) 50g Ball of Pale GreenColours for flowers (e.g 50g Ball of Pink) 4 Small Buttons. Thread for stitching buttons on. Safety Pin 

Basic Knit

Right Shoe Sole

Cast on 24sts and work in seed (moss) stitch. Inc each end of rows 2, 4, 6, and 8. (32sts)

Work 3 rows. Dec each end of rows 12, 14, 16 and 18. (24sts) Row 19: Seed (moss) stitch to end, cast on 8sts.

Upper

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: inc, purl to end.
Rows 3 - 8: as rows 1 - 2 three times. Row 9: Knit.
Row 10: inc, p14, seed (moss) 21.
Row 11: seed (moss) 21, K16.
Row 12: inc, p15, seed (moss) 21. (38sts)

Row13: bind (cast off) 12 stitches, seed (moss) 3, bind (cast off) 4 stitches, moss 2, k17. Row 14: p17, seed (moss) 2, leave 3 sts on safety pin.
Row 15: seed (moss) 2, k17.
Rows 16 - 25: as rows 14 - 15 five times.

Row 26: p17, seed (moss) 2, cast on 19 stitches. Row 27: seed (moss) 21, k17.

Row 28: p2tog, p15, moss (seed) 21.

Row 29: seed (moss) 21, k16.
Row 30: p2tog, purl to end.
Rows 31 - 38: work in stockinette (stocking) stitch, dec beg of each purl row. Row 39: bind (cast) off

Strap

Place 3 sts from safety pin onto your needle Row 1: inc, inc, k1

Rows 2 - 15: Seed moss stitch.
Row 16: seed (moss) 2, bind (cast) off 1, seed (moss) 2. Row 17: seed (moss) 2, yo, seed(moss) 2
Rows 18 - 20: seed (moss) stitch.

Row 21: bind (cast) off

Left Shoe

Sole
As for right shoe

Upper

Reverse stockinette (stocking) stitch e.g Row 1: purl
Row 2: inc, knit to end

Row 10: inc, k14 seed (moss) stitch 21

Finishing

Join the heel seam.
Carefully fit upper to sole, easing the fullness around the toe area and stitch into position. Weave in any loose ends

Stitch on buttons

Flower Decoration

You will need:
Rowan baby alpaca DK or any silk wool DK Needles: 1 pair 3 1/4 mm (no 10) (US 3) needles Extras - Button for decoration in middle of flower

Flower 1 (Large)

Using 3 1/4 mm needles and yarn of your colour choice

Cast on 80 sts Row 1: knit

Row 2: *K1, cast off next 14 stitches (one st on right needle after cast off), rep from * 4 times more Break yarn and thread through rem 10 sts.
Pull up tight and fasten off securely.

Flower 2 (small)
Using 3 1/4 mm needles and yarn of your colour choice

Cast on 50 sts
Row 1: (WS): Knit
Row 2: *K1, cast off next 8 sts (one st on right needle after cast off), rep from * 4 times more Break yarn and thread through rem 10 sts.
Pull up tight and fasten off securely.

Making up your flower

Do not press
Lay small flower ontop of large flower and sew together in the centre
Attach a button to the centre of the flowers and sew into place.
As an alternative to a button you can attach a small knitted bobble or croched flower. For a small knitted bobble...cast on 6 sts

Row 1: knit Row 2; Purl Row 3: Knit Row 4: Purl. Row 5: Knit. Row 6: Purl
Stitch through your square along all of the edges and pull tight. This should form your bobble Secure to middle of flowers

Abbreviations

inc - increase by knitting into the front and back of the next stitch dec - decrease by knitting the next 2 stitches together p2tog - purl next 2 stitches together

yo - yarn around needle sts - Stitches

Seed (moss) stitch =

(on even number of stitches) Row 1: *K1, P1* to end
Row 2: *P1, K1* to end

= (on an odd number of stitches) every row *K1, P1* to last stitch, K1

Stockinette (Stocking) Stitch =
