I can't believe it is Easter in the UK already. The Greek Easter is next weekend and we have been invited to my Boss' place to throw pots from his balcony. He lives above the famous Liston cafe on the 5th floor, so will have an amazing view of all the celebrations. I'm going to enjoy a 4 day weekend also and relax with Mr.B.
Last year we went into Corfu town on Good Friday for the parade's around the town and it was raining so hard I was soaked through. On the Saturday we made it into town for the pot throwing and it was really great. The crowd cheered and clapped when the incredibly HUGE clay pots were thrown from the apartments above the town shops on the main street. On the Saturday evening we went to a Church service in the village of Karousades and it was so pretty! Everyone had a lit candle and the band played and after the Priest had completed his mass, there were fireworks for about half and hour.
Easter for many is a religious time and for others it's about chocolate! I will miss having an Easter egg or 5 to munch on (and saying, hey it's ok..it's Easter!). Instead I have developed a love for the Greek 'halva' which is a crumbly dry cake that is made from nut butter and sugar. They eat this over the Easter time as it has no dairy and is really addictive! Many Greek's take part in lent and eat no meat or dairy for 40 days, so the halva (either the dry one or the wet one - I tried this in a restaurant and was not as nice) is the dessert of choice. It's not quite the same as a nice Cadbury's egg, or a bag of mini eggs for that matter, but somehow I am managing to survive.
To celebrate I have collected some Easter bunny images from Pinterest and hope that you all have a great Easter!
