A great way to promote your business on social media is to create a Pinterest page.

In this post, I will give you my top tips on how to use your Pinterest page to gain traffic to your website or Etsy shop.

It can take a bit of time to get used to, but once you have created your page, you can reach out to many potential customers.

One of the social media accounts I love using the most is Pinterest, not only because it is extremely easy to search for something but it is also my go-to for ideas.

I use it all of the time to search for inspiration and how to’s. From outfit ideas, recipes and cleaning tips to all things work related.

I use Pinterest consistently and pin my own work from both my website and Etsy shop.

If you are also using Twitter or Facebook to promote your biz you will see in my other posts that there are very different ways to utilise each to gain traffic and buyers.

Pinterest is just one way to drive traffic to your site – and is probably best for any blogs that provide something the user wants – like DIY’s, crafts, recipes, fashion, beauty, how-tos and many more categories that offer people a solution to a problem.

Take a look at the information below to get started >

1. Complete Your Profile and Try To Add Keywords

When I wrote my own Pinterest profile I made sure I included the words free knitting patterns, crochet and crafts as these are the words that best describe my website and what I offer.

People who read this can see straight away that this is what I will be sharing and what I am offering.

If you read the bio information, I have gone into a bit more detail to tell people that the main thing I do is share free knitting patterns.

To search for keywords, type them in the Pinterest search bar and see what comes up and take it from there.

2. Set Up Boards That Can Show Off Your Work

I set up a few boards that showcase my own work, from free knitting patterns, paid patterns and crafts from my Etsy shop.

I pin to these boards regularly and write descriptions that include keywords.

The keywords will help your images to be found when people search, again type your keyword into the Pinterest search bar and see what comes up, this will help you to write descriptions.

Also, you can make sure your board cover photo is appealing, some people say that board covers don’t matter at all because most people don’t look on your profile, but it just makes me happy to see that all of my boards look pretty.

Another thing to do if you are a business owner is to set your Pinterest account as a business account.

This allows you to see analytics and allow rich pins. The rich pins are really great when you pin from your Etsy store or website store as it takes all of the info on it and the price.

Meaning people can click straight through to the product and buy!

It’s pretty easy to set up and if you look for help on Pinterest on how to switch to a business account you will be able to do it without buying any help books etc.

3. Join Group Boards

*Find People To Follow and Group Boards To Join*

Follow people whose content interests you. I follow people who are fellow crafters, knitters and creatives. I also follow fashion, interiors and illustration based content.

Joining group boards is a great way to share content and get your own content shared by multiple users.

I am getting more into this and have read a lot about group boards as this is a great way to drive traffic to your website or Etsy shop.

You can use Pin Groupie to find group boards and message the moderator of each one to ask if you can join.

I messaged around 50, to begin, with and then gradually messaged more, some people don’t moderate them that often so don’t expect tons of replies right away.

4. Get Tailwind

Another way of getting your content shared with a huge amount of people is to sign up for Tailwind.

I have a Tailwind account and it has been excellent at helping me to schedule pins at the best times and for using the tribes.

You can schedule your pins and join Tailwind Tribes – groups who can share your pins, as long as you share theirs.

The more you share – the more the group shares which means you are reaching millions of people on Pinterest.

5. Keep An Eye On Your Followers

Take notice of who is re-pinning you and reach out to them. Re-pin their content if it interests you and even invite them to pin to one of your boards.

We do this at work and I get invited to pin on various boards, so I can add my ideas to projects.

It’s always a good idea to interact with people and take note of your notifications, who is pinning what and which of your pins are most popular.

It can let you see what content is popular and what you should add more of.

For example; many of my free knitting patterns are very popular and are re-pinned regularly.

You can also track your popular content in your Pinterest analytics and to go further in your Google analytics or if you have Squarespace – in your Squarespace metrics.

You can check where your traffic is coming from and which Pins are the most popular.

This will then give you ideas for making more top quality content that your audience will be interested in.

You need to check the data regularly to see what is happening with your Pins and what people like.

This is just the bare minimum of what you can do with Pinterest.

There are many ways to use Pinterest to your advantage as a marketing tool.

You can go in depth with the analytics also, looking at top Pin impressions, re-pins and clicks.

I also LOVE the secret boards and have quite a few that I use regularly. This is a great feature for projects or ideas that you don’t want your followers to see.

I use this for work, for ideas and can share the boards with my colleagues. I come back to my secret boards nearly every day, for content that is useful for the many projects I am working on.

If you follow the steps above, it will go some way to help you to increase your followers and reach on Pinterest.

I have been seeing an improvement lately after working on my own account, with an increase in followers and an increase in traffic to my website.

I have been developing a strategy to increase my following and promote my Etsy shop.

Pinterest for bloggers can really make a difference in the number of people who are visiting your website or Etsy shop.

Do you use Pinterest daily?

Do you have any tips to share?

Let me know in the comments and happy pinning! xoxo
