The Chloe Hat Pattern

The Chloe hat pattern has been inspired by the amazing hat that American Olympian Chloe Kim was wearing during the winter Olympics.

Her team USA chunky knit hat looked so warm and cosy that I just had to get a pattern out there for you guys to make.

This knitted hat has been made with the softest yarn and will be sure to keep you nice and cosy in the cold weather.

An Easy Level Knitting Pattern

This is an easy pattern for those of you who are advanced beginner level, and the techniques you will need to know are knit, purl, k2tog and knitting in the round.

Using mainly knit and purl stitches, it will also introduce you to decreasing and shaping.

If you have never knit in the round before you can watch my video tutorial here.

The Yarn I Used…

I made the Chloe Kim hat using a super bulky weight  (06) yarn – Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick in Fisherman 099.

This was knit using two strands together to make the knitted fabric thicker.

Any super bulky weight yarn 06 will be okay to use for this pattern.

    1. Hello! Thank you so much, I am really happy you like the site and the patterns. The Chloe hat is really great to wear, especially in freezing temperatures! 🙂

  1. Hi! When it says “suitable for size 17 needles” does that mean we could make it with size 17 needles instead and it will turn out the same? Or should we stick to the size 15?
    Beautiful pattern, thank you!

    1. Hello Elise, yes you need to use size 15 mm (US 17) needles to make the hat as you knit with two strands of super bulky yarn together. Size 15mm is the metric size and US 17 is the size in US terms. So they are the same size. If you are going by the US terms, you will need size 17 needles. I hope that helps! Thanks, Louise

  2. Can this Chloe Hat be made using the magic loop technique on 32 inch cable with a US 17 needle?

    1. Hello Mary Jane,
You could try it out and see – the needle size is smaller so it may not be as chunky and it may be difficult to knit with two strands of the yarn together.
The magic loop technique would have to be used with a larger cable, so you may see some laddering at either side – but with the yarn being super bulky, it should be ok.
      I hope that helps!
