Materials needed…
Yarn Colors
Scraps of yarn in DK are perfect for this project.
Pink Witch
- Light beige or peachy pink for the skin.
- Lemon or yellow for hair.
- Pink for the body and legs.
- Pink for the dress.
- Light grey for the crown.
Green Witch
- Green for the skin.
- Black or dark brown for hair.
- Black for the body and legs.
- Black for the cloak and hat.
Knitting needles and other materials…
- Knitting Needles: Size 4 mm (US 6) or size suitable for your yarn choice.
- Polyester stuffing
- Darning needle and a sewing needle for sewing and embroidery.
- Small toy safety eyes (optional for the face).
- Embroidery thread (optional for details like facial features).
- Sewing needles and sewing thread for small buttons and attaching the crown and witch hat to the hair to secure it into place.
- Small buttons for the cloak and dress.
- Crochet hook – for the hair.
Optional
- Sewing pins or blocking pins for curling the hair.
- Water spray bottle, hairspray, and a hairdryer to curl the hair.
Size Information
Each doll is the same size;
- Height = 6 inches (7 inches including crown/hat).
- Width = 3 inches.
Gauge – Gauge is not crucial for this project; just ensure your stitches are tight enough so the stuffing doesn’t show through.
Age Appropriate
These dolls, due to their small size and inclusion of small parts (such as accessories or embellishments), are most appropriate for children aged 8 and up or adults.
They are not suitable for young children under 3 years old due to potential choking hazards.
For younger children, consider omitting any detachable parts or embellishments and ensuring all features are securely sewn.

Knitting Abbreviations
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together
- KFB: Knit into the front and back of the stitch to increase
- P3tog – Purl the next three stitches together to decrease
- St st: Stockinette stitch (alternate rows of knit and purl)
- CO: Cast on
- BO: Bind off
- PM – Place marker
- SM – Slip marker
- YO – Yarn over
Pink Witch Doll Knitting Pattern
Body and Head (Worked in one piece from the bottom up)
- Using dress color yarn (pink), CO 18 stitches.
- Work in St st (knit one row, purl one row) for 10 rows for the legs and dress
- Continue to use the same colored yarn for the torso.
- Knit 6 rows in St st for the torso.
- Switch to skin color yarn (light beige or peachy pink) for the face.
- Knit 6 rows in St st.
Decrease for Top of Head
- Row 1: K2tog across the row. (9 stitches remain)
- Row 2: Purl.
- Row 3: K2tog across the row. (5 stitches remain)
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close, and secure.
- Complete the face before closing and seaming the head and body.
- Stuff the body as you sew and seam along the bottom of the body to create a flat seam.
Facial Features
- Add two small-sized toy safety eyes to the face.
- You can also use embroidery thread or small bits of yarn to add eyes, a simple mouth, and any other features you’d like.
Arms (Make 2)
- Using skin color, CO 6 stitches.
- Work in St st for 4 rows.
- Switch to dress color (pink) and knit 6 more rows.
- BO and sew onto the sides of the torso.
Legs and Boots
- Using pink yarn, CO 6 stitches for each leg.
- Knit 8 rows in St st.
- BO and sew onto the bottom of the torso.
Hair
- Using lemon or yellow yarn, cut multiple short strands (around 10-12 inches each).
- Attach strands across the top of the head, looping them through stitches with a crochet hook to secure.
- Optional for curly hair: Use pins or blocking pins to wind the yarn around and wet it, leave it to dry, and remove the pins (see more on how to do this in the video).
- Trim and shape as desired (see photo for reference).
Tips for curly hair
- Wrap Tightly: Wrap yarn tightly around a dress making pin, or blocking pin to create the curl shape.
- Use Steam or Water: Mist with water and steam over boiling water or with an iron for wool/cotton yarn, or soak in warm water for synthetic yarns. You could also use hairspray and a hairdryer.
- Let It Dry Fully: Allow the wrapped yarn to dry completely (overnight for best results) before unwrapping.
- Fluff and Style: Gently fluff and trim curls as needed to create a natural look.
- Layer and Secure: Arrange the curls in layers, and trim to frame the face for realistic styling.
Dress
In pink yarn – CO 20sts
- Row 1: KFB into every stitch.
- Rows 2-5: Work in St st.
- Row 6: KFB into every stitch.
- Rows 7-11: Work in St st.
- Row 8: KFB into every stitch.
- Rows 9-13: Work in St st.
Bind off loosely.
Sew in any loose ends.
Attach the dress to the body of the doll by winding it around loosely and securing it by adding two button closures. (See photo for reference and video here).
Crown/Tiara
In light grey yarn CO 21 sts
- Rows 1 and 2: Work in 1×1 ribbing.
- Row 3: Knit
- Row 4: Purl
- Row 5: *Bind off 2 sts, move st to left needle, cast on 2 sts, bind off 4 sts* – rep from * to * to the end of the row.
Secure the last st and leave a yarn tail for seaming.
Sew in any other loose ends.
Sew the ends together to make the crown/tiara shape.
Stitch the crown/tiara to the hair of the pink witch doll with a similar colored sewing thread.
Green Witch Doll Knitting Pattern

Mini Witch Hat
In black yarn CO 18 sts.
- Rows 1-6: Work 6 rows in garter stitch.
- Row 7: *K2, K2tog* – rep from * to * to end.
- Row 8: Purl.
- Rows 9-12: Work 4 rows in St, st.
Decrease
- Row 13: *K1, K2tog* rep from * to * to end.
- Row 14: Purl.
- Row 15: K2tog – rep to end.
- Row 16: Purl.
- Row 17: K2tog, K2tog, K1.
- Row 18: P3tog.
Fasten off and seam the sides using the mattress stitch.
Curl the brim of the hat up to make a rolled brim (see photo for reference).
Stitch to the top of the doll’s head/hair with black sewing thread.
Cloak
In black yarn CO 12 sts.
- Row 1: K2 (PM, YO, K1) 8 times, K2.
- Row 2: K2, P to the last 2 sts, K2. (slipping the markers as you purl).
- Row 3: K2, (SM, YO, K to marker) 8 times, K2.
- Row 4: K2, P to the last 2 sts, K2. (slipping the markers as you purl).
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until the cloak measures around 2.5 or 3 inches long.
Bind off loosely.
Weave in any loose ends.
Attach a small button to close the cloak around the body of the green witch doll (see photo for reference).
Finishing
- Stuff the body and head firmly with polyester stuffing.
- Sew up all seams securely.
- Add any final details, like the witch hat or crown/tiara (stitch this to the hair using sewing thread), to complete their looks.
