What Is The Fourth Of July?

For any of you out there who don’t know why Americans celebrate the fourth of July, here is a bit of history below >

“On July 4, 1776, the thirteen colonies of America, then at war with Britain, declared themselves to be states of a new nation.

The declaration was made through the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which was drafted by founding father Thomas Jefferson.

The Thirteen Colonies were a group of colonies run by the British, who first started colonising North America in the 16th Century.

In 1775 the Continental Congress – a meeting of delegates from the colonies – declared a war of independence against Britain.

The first Independence Day celebrations took place on Rhode Island on July 4, 1777 – the one-year anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Thirteen gunshots were fired in a salute, one for each of the original colonies.

The area has longest-running Independence Day celebrations in the country.”
