In this blog post, you will see Autumn Leaves & Evermore: A Knitted Lace Bookmark.

There’s something about the Evermore era that feels timeless—a gentle melancholy mixed with a sense of nostalgia, much like the falling leaves in autumn.

Inspired by Taylor Swift’s Evermore album, I decided to create a knitted lace bookmark that captures the essence of the season: a delicate pattern featuring falling leaves, perfect for cozy reading sessions as the weather cools and the days grow shorter.

Autumn Leaves Evermore A Knitted Lace Bookmark

Why Evermore?

Taylor Swift’s Evermore album is a musical journey that dives deep into storytelling, blending folk, indie, and alternative sounds with lyrical depth.

The entire aesthetic of the Evermore era feels like a long walk through an autumn forest, with soft sunlight filtering through golden leaves, casting intricate shadows.

The album’s emotional range—wistfulness, longing, and quiet introspection—creates the perfect muse for a knitting project rooted in nature.

The Inspiration: Falling Leaves

The core of this bookmark design is inspired by one of autumn’s most iconic symbols—falling leaves.

In knitting, lace patterns have this magical ability to bring texture and depth, mimicking nature’s intricate details.

For this bookmark, I wanted to create a lace pattern that reflects the organic movement of leaves fluttering down from the trees, with yarn-overs and decreases that resemble their curling edges and soft descent.

Skill Level – Intermediate

The Lace Motif: The falling leaves design is the centerpiece of this bookmark. It features a series of interlocking leaf shapes that gently taper as the pattern progresses.

This lace motif flows gracefully, just like the leaves in autumn.

This easy bookmark pattern and finished product is for personal use only.

Materials needed:

Yarn

Choosing the Yarn: To capture the rustic and earthy feel of Evermore, I went with a light fingering weight yarn in a warm, golden amber tone—reminiscent of autumn foliage.

A wool-blend yarn adds a hint of texture, like leaves crisping underfoot.

  • Fingering weight yarn/4 Ply.
  • Amount of yarn – around 10g/40 meters.
  • Yarn – WALK Hand Dyed Yarn, Tough Sock Mini in the color Little Miss Sunshine.

Needles

Size 3.5 mm needles (US 4)

Notions

  • Darning needle/tapestry needle or yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure

Size Information

Size & Shape: Since bookmarks should be functional yet decorative, the pattern is slim and elongated.

The lacework is delicate but sturdy, so it can slip comfortably between the pages of your favorite novel while holding its shape over time.

  • The bookmark length measures – 9 inches.
  • The width measures – 3 inches.
  • Gauge – 16 stitches/18 rows in 5 x 5 cm/2 inches.

The Evermore Touch

What makes this design truly special is its connection to the Evermore era.

While knitting it, I found myself returning to the album’s standout tracks like “Willow” and “Gold Rush”—songs that feel as fleeting and beautiful as the autumn leaves themselves.

This bookmark, just like Evermore, is meant to be a gentle companion, adding a sense of wonder and reflection to your everyday life.

Whether you’re a Swiftie or just a lover of autumn’s fleeting beauty, this knitted lace bookmark is a perfect way to carry the season and the spirit of Evermore with you, even as the last leaves fall and winter approaches.

Final Thoughts

Crafting this bookmark was a meditative process, a quiet reflection of the themes found in Evermore—the passage of time, the changing seasons, and the beauty found in both simplicity and complexity.

As you knit your own, I hope it brings you a little slice of autumn magic and a reminder of the beautiful transition between life’s seasons.
