Free Egg Cosy Knitting Pattern

Egg cosy knitting pattern

This easy egg cosy pattern is perfect for beginners and will be sure to keep your boiled eggs warm and cosy on Sunday mornings!

Materials

  • Double knit (DK) yarns in any colour (around 20g or less – any yarn scraps will do).

Tools

  • 4 mm (US 6) knitting needles
  • Buttons
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

Instructions

Body

  1. Cast on 28 stitches with your yarn color choice
  2. Knit in st st - stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) until the piece measures 1 inch, ending with a purl row.
  3. *K2tog, K4, repeat from * till end
  4. Purl
  5. *K2tog, K3, repeat from * till end
  6. Purl
  7. *K2tog, K2, repeat from * till end
  8. Purl
  9. K2tog across.
  10. Break off the yarn leaving a 7-inch length.
  11. Thread the 7-inch length onto a sewing needle, and draw it through all stitches on the knitting needle.
  12. Pull tightly.
  13. Fold the right sides together and sew the seam with the 7-inch length yarn.
  14. Weave in loose ends.
  15. Turn right side out.

Small Flower

  1. Using 4 mm (US 6) needles and yarn of your color choice
  2. Cast on 50 sts
  3. Row 1: (WS): Knit
  4. Row 2: (RS): *K1, cast off next 8 sts (one st on right needle after cast off), rep from * 4 times more.
  5. Break yarn and thread through rem 10 sts.
  6. Pull up tight and fasten off securely.

Medium Flower

  1. Using 4 mm (US 6) needles and any double knit yarn, cast on 80sts
  2. Row 1: (WS): Knit
  3. Row 2: (RS): *K1, cast off next 14 sts (one st on right needle after cast off) rep from * 4 times more.
  4. Break yarn and thread through rem 10 sts.
  5. Pull up tight and fasten off securely.
  6. Sew the button into place in the middle of the small flower and then stitch it to the medium flower and attach it to the top of your egg cosy.
