How To Have A Magical Halloween

halloween

Halloween is upon us once again!

I have been enjoying all of the pretty decorations on Pinterest and love how many of the Halloween decorations I have seen are bright and colourful.

I really want to knit some of those pumpkins in orange, white and browns, they would make perfect home decor and look too over the top.

*Don’t forget to pin and share!*

Do you like to plan your Halloween costumes months in advance? or are you a last minute kinda person?

If you would like to make your own costume, please take a look at this post – Spooky knits to make this Halloween.

The patterns below range from beginner to more advanced – whatever your level of knitting, if you need any help with knitting stitches or abbreviations, please take a look at the knitting tutorials on my site.

There are also many free patterns for women, men, baby, kids, pets and the home in my knitting pattern library.

If you are stuck for what to do this year, take a look at my top 5 ideas to ensure that you have a magical Halloween >

1. Decorate Your Home

Halloween decorations can range from carved pumpkins and homemade cobwebs to renting a fog machine!

You can make your home look spooky with great Halloween home decor ideas from magazines like Good Housekeeping and Martha Stewart.

I have also been reading about wall murals and how easy they are to install, with a peel-off backing.

This would be a great idea, to install a spooky forest scene in your home, then take it down to save for next year.

Also, don’t forget to keep a basket full of candy near your front door, so you can hand out trick or treat bags to any kids that come to call.

Outdoor Halloween decorations can look really good, especially when you see pumpkins, broomsticks and hanging bats.

You can be really creative with this and make your house look really scary!

2. Make Spooky Crafts

With great ideas from Country Living Magazine, you can create something amazing this year for Halloween and become the envy of all your party guests!

From black and white themed decor to drawing on pumpkins, there are so many good ideas.

I was having a search on Pinterest and found a skeleton door wreath, balloon dementors and floating candles (like the great hall in Hogwarts!).

You could also knit a mini pumpkin or knit a bat which I bet the kids will love!

3. Watch A Scary Movie

I’m not a huge fan of Halloween movies, mainly because I’m so jumpy in general! I enjoy more of the ‘Hocus Pocus’ Disney movie.

This is one of my favourites and I love to watch it on Halloween. I remember I used to really have the hots for the actor Omri Katz when I was a kid and loved the TV show he was in – ‘Eerie Indiana’.

I also love to watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer, it makes me laugh and I re-watch the entire series, every couple of years.

The episode with the ventriloquist’s dummy that is alive does really scare me though. I hate that one!

4. Have A Party

Having a Halloween party is fun if you like to dress up and decorate your house, I prefer to go to a party, rather than having one, as spooky Halloween decorations look like a lot of work to clean up!

I think it’s better to dress up and go to a nightclub party, where they have prizes for the best costume, and when you lose, you then wonder why you didn’t spend 4 hours in makeup to look like pinhead from Hellraiser to win a prize! (That guy did look awesome though!)

5. Visit A Haunted House

In Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK where I am from, there are so many haunted houses themed nights and haunted castle tours.

I have never been on one for obvious reasons (nightmares for weeks!) even though my mum would love nothing more to do something like that as she firmly believes in all things paranormal.

So yes you could book a scary haunted house tour or walk through a graveyard, or you could sit at home and watch a (not so) scary movie.

6. Halloween Style

Fina Halloween style that suits you – if you want to find yourself a Halloween costume or decorate your home for the occasion.

Many people go for the obvious – from dressing like a witch or a sexy something (cat, firefighter, police, army etc) to mummies, zombies, ghosts and ghouls. Anything goes when it comes to Halloween.

In the home – it could be pumpkin-themed decor – with carved faces lining your front door or windows.

For something, a bit different, black and white could be the style to try out – I was feeling inspired by the Halloween home decor and style ideas that I found on Pinterest.

The images below really give me the creeps, but in a good way!

Whatever you do for Halloween I hope it is a lot of fun!
