THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS AFFILIATE LINKS THAT SUPPORT HANDY LITTLE ME CONTENT AND FREE PATTERNS.Make this super cozy, chunky crochet tree skirt in an afternoon and give your Christmas decor that soft farmhouse feel.
This pattern is beginner-friendly, works up quickly with jumbo yarn, and is available as a free printable so you can hook away from the screen.

Before You Get Started
This is a simple, relaxing make — perfect for an evening with a movie and a hot drink.
Here’s what to know before you begin:
- The skirt is worked flat in rows, then wrapped around your tree stand.
- You’ll use single crochet stitches only, working in the back loop to create a lovely ribbed texture.
- Because we’re using a huge 30 mm hook and jumbo yarn, your stitch counts don’t need to be perfect.
- You can easily adjust the diameter by working more or fewer rows.
This is a great project if you’re new to chunky crochet, or if you just want a quick festive make to add to your handmade holiday decor.

Tools & Materials Needed
- Yarn: Jumbo (07) weight yarn – approx. 5–6 skeins (each 140–168 yds)
- Suggested:
- Lion Brand AR Workshop Chunky Knit
- Hobbii Blanket yarn
- Bernat Blanket Big
- Suggested:
- Hook: 30 mm crochet hook (jumbo size)
- Notions:
- Scissors
Please note: Because the yarn is so thick, you’ll weave in your ends with your fingers/hands instead of a yarn needle.
Gauge & Finished Size
- Gauge:
- 2.5 sts / 2 rows in a 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inch) square
- Worked in sc (single crochet) using a 30 mm hook
- Gauge is not crucial for this project — your Christmas tree skirt will still look gorgeous even if your tension is a little loose or tight.
- Finished Size:
- Length around 70 inches/178 cm (around the tree): depends on your personal tension and yarn choice
- Width around 16 inches/41 cm (from center toward edge): adjustable
- Use more yarn to make it wider/longer.
Think of this pattern as a recipe: you can stop when it looks right for your tree.

Abbreviations
All terms are written in US crochet terminology:
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- blo – back loop only
- st – stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
Pattern Notes
- The tree skirt is worked flat in rows, back and forth.
- You’ll then wrap the rectangle around the tree stand so the edges overlap slightly.
- Working in the back loop only (blo) of each next stitch creates that chunky, knit-look rib.
- If you’d like a deeper skirt, simply keep repeating the main row until you’re happy with the size (or until you run out of yarn).
Farmhouse Crochet Tree Skirt Pattern Instructions
Foundation
Ch 50 stitches.
This chain becomes the length of your tree skirt when it wraps around the stand.
Tip: Try to keep your chain fairly relaxed. If it’s very tight, it can be harder to insert hook into each loop for the first row.
Row 1
- Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work:
- 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook – this is your first stitch.
- 1 sc in each next stitch across the row.
- Turn your work.
You now have a chunky first row of stitches.
Row 2 (Texture Row)
- Ch 1 (does not count as a st).
- Work 1 sc in the back loop only (sc blo) of each st across the row.
- Turn your work.
Working in blo is what gives the ribbed effect that looks a little like knit.
Rows 3 and Onwards
- Repeat Row 2:
- Ch 1, sc blo in each st across, turn.
- Continue repeating Row 2 until you run out of yarn or your skirt is as wide as you’d like.
Want a larger diameter? Simply keep crocheting more rows.

Finishing
- When your piece measures the width you like, work a sl-st (slip stitch) in the last stitch to secure.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a short tail.
- Gently pull the tail through the last loop to fasten off.
- Weave in the loose ends with your fingers (the yarn and hook are so chunky that a needle isn’t really needed).
To use your new tree skirt, wrap it around the base of your tree, letting the edges overlap slightly in front.
Arrange it so it drapes softly on the floor.
Styling Tips
- Fluff the folds to show off the ribbed texture.
- Layer it with a faux fur rug for ultra-cozy vibes.
- Choose a neutral color for a classic farmhouse look, or go bold with deep green or red.
- Make a second one as a gift – this pattern is quick enough for last-minute holiday making.

FAQs & Extra Tips
→ Can I make this pattern bigger or smaller?
Yes! To adjust the size, you can:
- Change the number of starting chains for a longer or shorter skirt.
- Work more or fewer rows to adjust the width and overall diameter.
→ Can I use other stitches?
Absolutely. Once you’re comfortable, you can experiment with a row of double crochets (dc) here and there for variety.
For example, you might add a decorative stripe of dc st in the 3rd ch from the hook in a contrasting color on one row to add interest.
→ What if my gauge is way off?
Because this is a rectangle that you wrap around the tree, gauge isn’t too important.
If it seems too narrow or short, just add more rows.
→ Where do I work my stitches?
For this pattern:
- Work into each next st across, in the blo for Rows 2 onwards.
- There are no special spaces (sp) to worry about – just standard stitches.
→ Is there a video?
