The Design Inspiration
The style of this hat was inspired by the ribbed brown hat Roger is wearing in Outlander season 4, which looks like a traditional seaman’s hat.
Knit in 1×1 ribbing instead of 2×2 ribbing – this has a tighter rib-knit fabric.
Great to gift, this hat is super easy to knit and will be well received by loved ones, friends, and charities.
The yarn I used…
I made the ribbed beanie knitting pattern twice using different yarns and different needle sizes.
The brown hat is knit using Rowan Kid Classic yarn in Bitter Sweet and knit on size 5.5 mm (US 9) 16″ circular needles.
The second yarn I used was The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters in Ivory and knit on size 6 mm (US 10) 16″ circular needles.
They both knit up quite quickly and used only one skein of yarn each.

Needles
- 5.5 mm (US size 9) 16″ circular knitting needles.

- To knit the hat using The Petite Wool from We Are Knitters, you will need to use 6 mm (US 10) 16″ circular knitting needles.
