A Drawstring Bag You Can Use For Many Things!

The crochet drawstring bag can work up really fast, and you can do a lot with it.

You could even adjust the pattern to make it smaller or larger depending on your purpose.

The bag can be used for baby items on the go as well as for storing items in the home (not just produce).

Made in 100% cotton, the bag is durable, yet soft and can be open and closed with a drawstring.

Make Your Own Reusable Produce Bags

While we are all trying hopefully to use less plastic and have less waste in general, the little things really can help.

Going to the market nearly every day and collecting plastic or paper produce bags that end up going into the recycling is not the way forward.

Taking your own reusable produce bags to the market can make a great difference.

  • If you weigh your fruit and vegetables in bags when you are at the market, this bag will add a little weight.
  • But if, like me, you weigh them without any bag, then this will be a good option.
  • For more expensive items, it would be a good idea to weigh without the bag.

Make A Drawstring Bag For Your Crochet Or Knitting Projects

If you don’t want to have them rolling about in your basket loose, taking your own reusable fruit and veggie bags is a great idea!

Plus, if like me you get your lemons from your neighbor’s tree, even better to just pop a few in the mesh bag.

Not just for fruit, the cotton drawstring bag can be used for a number of things.

Some ideas:

  • Storing toys
  • Bathroom/toiletries/personal items
  • Baby items
  • For travel – underwear/socks/sandals/flip flops
  • Crochet or knitting project bag

Knitting project bags or crochet bags are always needed if you have many different WIPs on the go!

Notes

Make reusable shopping bags for farmer’s markets or the grocery store.

This will also make a great little market bag for small groceries (like potatoes) or for storing plastic bags.

You could even adapt it and add handles to make a larger shopping bag.

But for whatever you use it for, this bag is a great crochet project for any essentials you want to carry around with you.

  1. This is quick and easy, but I could use a tip or two on how to work up the side seams using single crochet. I’ve never done that before.

Also, this is my first project using cotton. Any advice on what’s the best way to block the project? Before or after seaming?

    1. Hello JenlnJapan,

Thank you so much for your comment! I’m glad you’re enjoying the pattern. 😊

For working up the side seams using single crochet:

Align the sides of your bag evenly and use stitch markers to keep everything in place.
Insert your hook through both layers at the starting point, then work single crochet stitches along the edge, ensuring you go through both layers each time.
Try to keep your tension consistent for a neat finish.

      Regarding blocking with cotton:

Cotton holds its shape well after blocking, so it’s a great idea to block your project.
For this pattern, I recommend blocking after seaming so the bag holds its final shape nicely.
You can lightly dampen the bag and pin it to shape, or use a steam block method for faster results.

      I hope these tips help!
